The re-opening of the iconic speedway circuit in North Queensland was held on the 11th August with the Gary Moon Memorial.
Gates opened at 2pm for rider entry but the spectators were already backed up, all anxious to witness speedway at the circuit for the first time in seven years.
The racing certainly didn't disappoint from the first heat with a full field of 1000cc sidecars and also the 500cc solos. If you weren't there, you definitely missed some of the best racing in Australia and must put it on your to-do list!
I had a ripper night in the heats, scoring 13 and having a 5th round thriller with Ryan Douglas in what most say was the race of the night. The lead changed almost twice every lap and I'm sure we used every line possible on the track to get the lead. At the line it was a photo finish.
I scored the win in Semi-Final 2 and progressed to the A final. This time I battled it out for 4 laps with Douglas and local hot shot, Kozza Smith.
1st - Ryan Douglas
2nd - Zane Keleher
3rd - Kozza Smith
